Highlighting Health Workers’ Contribution to Family Planning and Reproductive Health

From September 27-29, Partners in Population and Development Africa Regional Office (PPD ARO) hosted a Regional Meeting of the Southern and Eastern Africa Alliance of Parliamentary Committees on Health (SEAPACOH). Held in Kampala, Uganda, the meeting focused on the theme of “Repositioning family planning and reproductive health in the southern and eastern Africa region: Lessons learnt, challenges, and opportunities.” A CapacityPlus associate partner, PPD is an intergovernmental initiative created to expand and improve South-to-South collaboration in reproductive health, population, and development. Creating Legislation for Health Careers in the Dominican Republic

In the Dominican Republic, CapacityPlus is helping strengthen the human resources management systems needed for the health workforce to perform effectively. Part of this work includes developing new legislation for health worker career paths. On September 7, with assistance from CapacityPlus and the Ministry of Public Administration, the Ministry of Public Health conducted a forum to review the draft legislation. Eighty-seven participants from national health associations, Congress, major political parties, and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) took part in the forum. Read more »

Webinar Explores Models for Training Frontline Social Service Workers

Well-trained frontline health workers are essential to address the social service needs of vulnerable children and their families. But what are the best models for providing basic skills training to this workforce, which relies on a variety of paid and unpaid workers, including community members? More than 80 participants from 11 countries participated in a webinar hosted by the Social Service Workforce Strengthening Alliance via CapacityPlus on September 8 to hear about and discuss three best-practice models for extending the social service workforce.
