From January 25-29, CapacityPluswill join representatives from the global health workforce community at the Second Global Forum on Human Resources for Health/Prince Mahidol Award Conference in Bangkok, Thailand. CapacityPlus has been involved in the forum’s planning and is sending a delegation to this important international event. Read more »
With half the world’s population living in rural areas, access to health care in remote and rural facilities is a major concern. Health workers tend to be located in cities—according to the World Health Organization, only about 25% of physicians and 38% of nurses work in rural areas. Read more »

Last month, staff from the Kumuli District Health Office in Uganda reported that they have succeeded in recruiting 73 of the planned 80 new health workers (nurses, midwives, radiographers, and laboratory technicians), constructed 10 houses for health workers, and provided uniforms to 50 health workers. CapacityPlus’s Dykki Settle presented at the Sub-Regional Workshop on Health Information Systems and Epidemiological Surveillance in the Economic Community of West-African States Region on November 24 in Dakar, Senegal. The workshop was sponsored by the West African Health Association (WAHO) and brought together representatives from all 15 member countries to promote developing national health information systems (NHIS) to improve the prevention and control of epidemic-prone diseases.
