Alex CollinsAlex Collins, IntraHealth International, Program Officer
Alex Collins is a global health specialist with over six years of experience and education in international development, focusing on maternal and child health and nonprofit management. In her current role, she supports CapacityPlus’s activities to strengthen the social service workforce caring for vulnerable populations in sub-Saharan Africa, the project’s core work in global leadership, and field work in the Dominican Republic. Prior to joining IntraHealth, Alex served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco from 2007–2009. During that time, she worked with a village development association and local women’s groups to implement educational and health initiatives. Her experiences at the grassroots level in Morocco and with various nonprofits serving the Latino community in North Carolina, adolescent girls in Thailand, and orphans and vulnerable children in Kenya and Ghana sparked her interest in economic empowerment, which she explored as a research assistant on the asset-building team at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Social Work. She earned her MSW in management, community, and policy practice and MPH at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
