The intention is to increase the quantity, quality, and retention of graduates with specific skills addressing the health needs of their populations. While many MEPI programs include elements of community-based education (CBE), such as community placements, clinical rotations in underserved locations, community medicine, or primary health care, the challenge identified by MEPI-supported schools was the need for appropriate approaches and tools to evaluate these activities. This article, co-authored by Rebecca Bailey and Heather Ross of Capacity&lt;em&gt;Plus&lt;/em&gt;, outlines the process of identifying tools that, with modification, could assist in the evaluation of CBE programs in participating MEPI schools.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Gender inequalities in admission, retention, and graduation are recognized as significant barriers to achieving preservice education goals. Less attention has been paid to how gender discrimination affects students’ education and career opportunities and faculty professional development, career opportunities, and satisfaction. Capacity&lt;em&gt;Plus&lt;/em&gt; compiled and analyzed literature on gender   discrimination in higher education, including health worker preservice   education. Additional information was gathered by contacting institution   staff and reviewing institutional websites. Presented at the 2014 Prince Mahidol Award Conference in Pattaya, Thailand on January 27–31, 2014, this poster  summarizes the review, highlights lessons learned by the Kenya Medical Training College, and recommends key actions that  stakeholders can take at  institutional and governmental levels  to  counter gender discrimination.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Nigeria is one of 57 countries defined by the World Health Organization as having a critical shortage of health workers. Capacity&lt;em&gt;Plus&lt;/em&gt; undertook an assessment of Nigerian midwifery, health technology, and nursing schools to better understand the progress and challenges in producing greater numbers of competent and qualified health providers. Nineteen schools were assessed through focus group interviews and on-site evaluations. Presented at the 9th Annual Physician Workforce Research Conference in Alexandria, VA on May 2-3, 2013, this poster depicts the challenges that health care training institutions face in Nigeria, along with recommendations to overcome these challenges.&lt;/p&gt;
