Human Resources for Health (HRH) Effort Index

The Human Resources for Health (HRH) Effort Index is designed to improve the measurement of inputs to and outcomes of national HRH programs. The Effort Index also monitors country progress and changes over time. The focus of the Index is on collective, national-level HRH efforts, as opposed to efforts made by individual projects, nongovernmental organizations, or other stakeholders. This survey is designed to collect information leading to the construction of such index.

Dean's Dashboard

The Dean’s Dashboard is a free, computerized, open source tool that helps the leaders of educational institutions manage their schools more efficiently. The dashboard allows school leaders to systematically define strategic, indicator-based goals for their educational programs and routinely monitor progress toward achieving them. Charts and graphs created and monitored on the dashboard can be easily saved, shared, and integrated into presentations, brochures, websites, and other key management materials. A school’s management team can download and customize the standard dashboard linked to this page, or build their own customized dashboard using the most recent version of the powerful DHIS2 software. The step-by-step user’s manual and DHIS2 expert community provide guidance and support to install, customize, and maximize the use of the dashboard for data-driven decision making.

Gender Discrimination and Health Workforce Development: An Advocacy Tool

Health professional education systems play a pivotal role in developing competent, motivated health workers who are vital to the delivery of high-quality family planning, maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, and other essential health services. This online tool outlines recommended combinations of gender transformative interventions to counter various forms of gender discrimination in learning environments, and provides advocacy strategies for stakeholders to develop plans to create, implement, and enforce conducive environments, equal opportunity, and nondiscrimination policies. The tool draws from a technical report and technical brief published by CapacityPlus on strengthening the health worker pipeline through gender transformative strategies.

Guide for Conducting Peer Reviews of Community-Based Health Sciences Education Programs

During 2014-2015, CapacityPlus and the Medical Education Partnership Initiative (MEPI) conducted a peer review of the community-based education component of the medical education program at the University of Zimbabwe College of Health Sciences. One purpose of the activity was to expose colleagues in the MEPI community to the process and tools of conducting a peer review. This step-by-step guide to the peer review process is targeted at educators and leaders in health sciences faculties and medical schools. While primarily focused on MEPI-supported schools, it is expected to be of assistance to health professions schools internationally that are interested in such an evaluation and improvement approach.

Guidelines for Developing Monitoring and Evaluation Plans for Human Resources for Health

These guidelines are intended to give stakeholders an overview of the process for developing M&E plans that are an integral component of HRH plans. This document complements existing M&E resources, such as national and regional M&E plans for  malaria and HIV/AIDS, in that it provides the general steps required to develop an M&E plan while also paying particular attention to HRH-specific considerations, challenges, and indicators. The guidelines focus on national-level M&E plans for HRH, but they can also be applied at regional, district, and subdistrict levels.

Compendium of Approaches and Tools for Expanding High-Quality Health Workforce Education and Training

This compendium categorizes and describes approaches and tools that national stakeholders can use to address common challenges in expanding high-quality education and training. It lists sources of globally-recognized, evidence-based guidelines and recommendations for scaling up and transforming health professional education. It then suggests resources to support the implementation of those recommendations, categorized in relation to the health workforce production pipeline framework.
