Brazil and Ethiopia conferences

Key Events

This November, CapacityPlus is playing a key role in two major conferences in Brazil and Ethiopia. As IntraHealth’s Pape Gaye has written, the global health community’s eyes should be on these two gatherings. Their goals are intrinsically linked. Countries that have made the greatest progress in family planning have employed strategies that included strong community health workforces. The role of the health worker is crucial.

Sponsored by the Global Health Workforce Alliance under the patronage of the Government of Brazil, the World Health Organization, and the Pan American Health Organization, the Third Global Forum on Human Resources for Health will build on the First and Second Global Forums on Human Resources for Health, held in 2008 in Uganda and 2011 in Thailand. CapacityPlus lead partner IntraHealth International is a cohost of the Forum. The theme for 2013 is “Rising to the grand challenge of human resources for health.” CapacityPlus leaders will join over 1,500 other human resources for health (HRH) stakeholders to elicit new HRH commitments from governments, donors, development partners, the private sector, and civil society; establish greater accountability to track, monitor, and report on those commitments; and more clearly link the HRH agenda to the Millennium Development Goals, universal health coverage, social determinants of health, the Rio+20 process, and the post-2015 development agenda.
