Although part of the United Republic of Tanzania, Zanzibar has its own ministry of health and different needs for managing the health workforce.

Zanzibar's Ministry of Health and Social Welfare is implementing iHRIS Manage at the central level and modifying it to meet its needs. In line with revised health worker training guidelines, the Ministry needed a module that could track and manage in-service trainings offered to and completed by health workers. Based on stakeholder specifications, a training management module was developed for their system and subsequently included in future releases of the core software.

iHRIS Manage is now being rolled out to the Zonal HR Management offices and the HR Management office at the centrally located Mnazi Mmoja hospital. HR managers at the Ministry are consistently trained on the utilizing the system and using data for decision-making.

The IntraHealth-led Tanzania Human Resource Capacity Project contributes to this work, building on the work of the former Capacity Project (2005-2009).
