Global HRIS Strengthening Work Makes Top 25 List

CapacityPlus's global human resources information systems (HRIS) strengthening work, originally developed under the Capacity Project, was recently named among the Top 25 Open Access and Open Source Medical Projects by A Hearty Blog.

Medical technicianThe HRIS work includes the free, Open Source iHRIS software suite and the HRIS Strengthening Implementation Toolkit. These tools are designed to help decision-makers effectively plan for recruitment, training, and retention of health professionals in a given country.

Based on a participatory approach, the HRIS strenghthening process comprises five elements:1) build HRIS leadership, 2) improve existing systems, 3) develop HRIS software solutions, 4) support effective data analysis and use for decision-making, and 5) ensure sustainability and continuous improvement.

The post is timely as many health workers, including nurses, switch to electronic and online patient medical records, and pursue similar efforts at the facility level. The blog says one way to ensure transparency and cooperation is through Open Source software, community, collaboration, and tools.
